Ever wanted to stargaze on a warm summer night? Well, this is your chance! The Idaho Museum of Natural History (IMNH) on the Idaho State University’s (ISU) Pocatello campus announces its first ever summer festival, StarFest, inspired by IMNH’s summer exhibit, Astronomical Idaho, featuring Be the Astronaut; an interactive exhibit that lets you be an astronaut, showing at IMNH till September 3rd. StarFest, is scheduled for August 17th 2018 at the ISU upper campus’s Bartz field from 7:30pm to 11pm. Activities will include telescope clinic, stargazing, learn about constellation, and yoga at sunset. StarFest is held in conjunction with the Pocatello Astronomical Society, ISU Physics Department, and ISU New Student Orientation, StarFest also celebrates the end of IMNH’s successful summer long membership drive. With many telescopes from all over Pocatello, you will have an opportunity to stargaze with the assistance of local astronomers. We highly encourage anyone who has telescopes at home to bring them along. At 7:30pm, a telescope clinic, hosted by the Pocatello Astronomical Society, will assist individuals with their telescope operations and ISU Physics Department will provide constellation education. Lori Head from Mind Your Body will prepare for your planetary experience with Moon Salutations at 8:00pm. This activity is geared for all ages and all skill levels. No mat is required. Participants are requested to bring binoculars as some constellations may be viewed without a telescope. Additionally, a dark environment is best for viewing and it is requested that only red lights, not regular flashlights be used. Terri Bergmeier, IMNH Director of Development, says that “Truly the first of its kind in Pocatello, this free event is definitely a great way to wrap up this summer season”. StarFest will be held at Bartz Field in Pocatello from 8 pm - 11 pm. T-shirts available for purchase at:
