Alturas Institute presents BITE ME Red Carpet Movie Premier and Costume Ball from 6p-10p on Friday July 5th at The DEC-Downtown Event Center, 480 Park Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 IRS AGENT AND VAMPIRES TAKE IDAHO FALLS BY STORM WITH INNOVATIVE RELEASE OF MUCH-ANTICIPATED AWARD-WINNING ROMANTIC COMEDY “BITE ME” The Joyful Vampire Tour of America is bringing screenings, festivities, capes, and joy to fans in 40 cities during three-month tour, including date in Idaho Falls IDAHO FALLS, ID, June 18, 2019 – What does an IRS agent have in common with a vampire? They are both bloodsuckers, and they both come together for a “taxing” relationship in the subversive romantic comedy “Bite Me,” which is changing how independent films are distributed with The Joyful Vampire Tour of America, a 51-screening, 40-city, 3-month, RV-fueled, old-school carnival-coming-to-town extravaganza that is circumnavigating the US from May 6-August 1, 2019, including Idaho Falls on Friday, July 5th. Following Bite Me’s 2019 Cinequest World Premiere and Best Feature Film Win at VTXIFF and, after researching the murky and uninspiring state of current independent film distribution, the Bite Me team decided to go rogue and, eschewing traditional gatekeepers, bring their film directly to the audiences most excited to see it. Bite Me is a subversive romantic comedy about a real-life vampire and the IRS agent who audits her and almost every screening on the tour is paired with a special event – most often Joyful Vampire Balls, although there is at least one Joyful Vampire Yoga Class – that gives audiences a chance to meet the filmmakers, have fun with their community, and celebrate whatever makes them most joyful. Capes, tiaras, wings, and/or joyful attire of all kinds are encouraged at all screenings and events. Bite Me is simultaneously available to watch on the indie subscription-on-demand service, Seed & Spark, as well as for rental/purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play, so whether folks are able to join for a screening/event on the tour or just want to watch it from their couch, they can participate in the conversation! Because the tour itself – led by Bite Me’s writer and star Naomi McDougall Jones – is itself so much fun, documentary filmmaker Kiwi Callahan is on the RV-ride too and is making a docu-series about The Joyful Vampire Tour that is being released every Saturday on YouTube for the duration of the tour. Fans are following the docu-series to follow the team’s adventures circumnavigating these United States, but indie filmmakers are finding even more in there, because the Bite Me team believes that indie filmmakers should not be forced to make distribution decisions about their films with as little data as is now available. They are, therefore, making Bite Me a radically transparent case study in creative distribution and are being fully transparent about all their numbers (cost, revenue, etc), giving filmmakers an opportunity to learn from both their failures and successes. The Joyful Tour began in New York City on May 6th and runs through August 1st with 51 screenings and events in 40 cities all over the US. A full list of dates/venues can be found at Major cities on the tour include New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, Austin, Tucson, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Aspen, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and others. The tour comes to Idaho Falls on July 5th with a 6pm Red Carpet Event, 7pm screening and Q&A with the film’s writer/star Naomi McDougall Jones, and 9pm Joyful Vampire Ball. All events at Downtown Event Center, 480 Park Ave, Idaho Falls, ID. Tickets are $25 for the full evening and can be purchased at Beer and wine will be available for purchase. “Bite Me” is an award-winning subversive romantic comedy about a real-life vampire and the IRS agent who audits her. In New York City Sarah (Naomi McDougall Jones, “Imagine I’m Beautiful”) is part of a subculture of people who identify as vampires who believe they need to drink blood to stay healthy. James (Christian Coulson, Tom Riddle in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Nashville”) is an expat IRS agent assigned to audit Sarah's vampire church. Romance sparks between the two while clashes between their different worlds cause hiccups. Sarah's roommates and community are not accepting of James, while James' conservative Christian friends aren't too fond of the vampire cult. As the impending IRS ruling looms, the two are forced to confront their feelings; will they abide by the norms or do they have the courage to fall in love with outsiders. “Bite Me” is a fun and colorful romantic comedy offering audiences hope, joy and acceptance. The film costars Naomi Grossman (“American Horror Story”) and Annie Golden (“Orange is the New Black”). “Bite Me” is directed by Meredith Edwards, written and produced by Naomi McDougall Jones, produced by Sarah Wharton and executive produced by Jack Lechner and Joanne Zippel.
